Our Influencers

(Artwork by Murray Lewis)

We are all encouraged to be like somebody else. However, where does all this come from?

Some would say that it is our parents, some would say friends or just the surroundings. I prefer all of them. There are so many influencers out there that you might even got lost in opinions!

But remember, you are the biggest influence, as what you say and do has an effect on someone no matter what.

However, there is a difference between being just an influencer and being an effective one. The difference is in how you treat yourself and people. Here are some examples of other bloggers and their opinion on how to be an effective influencer:

1. Forbes:

They are Fantastic Public Speakers
Influence is about communicating ideas and making them stick. For most influential people, public speaking is the best way to do that. Brian Solis is a well-known digital analyst and author – and part of why he is so well known is his unique ability to motivate his audience at keynote speaking engagements.

Kare Anderson has told me, “Brian is one of those rare presenters that can deliver quality content and enchantment at the same time, in the same sentence.”

Treat People with Respect
It's true that actions speak louder than words. When you treat people with respect, you are showing a part of your character that is tremendously valuable for you and for others. Respect is one of the core values in life. People are more likely to trust you if you respect them.

3. Success:

Lead Out and Embrace Diversity
To lead out—to see the potential in new connections, in the collective intelligence—is part of the art of influence. It’s understanding that by working together, we create opportunity—by respecting the myriad of different abilities of others, by accepting the value in corporate and entrepreneurial viewpoints and by seeing the value in cross-sector relationships. Leading out is facing out—it is leading with rather than leading for; it is to lead toward not away from mutual opportunities for success.

Share Your Thoughts and Opinions
Start a blog. Now that people know who you are, and you’ve established a reputation as a source of help and information, it should be pretty easy to get followers.

Just be sure to publish lots of great content. A dormant blog won’t help you reach your goals. Don’t skip this step! Some of the most influential people of the 21st century are active bloggers.

Be a Chameleon
No, this doesn’t mean to carry around a makeup palette and camo-paint yourself into the background. In this case, it means to adopt the simple animal behavior known as mirroring. Mirroring another’s posture, mannerisms, and tone, quickly establishes a connection through an unconscious recognition of familiarity. Once a positive connection has been made, it is far easier to hold influence. This is a technique successful negotiators, interviewees, and even waiters use to improve their outcome.
